Canter Brown Jr. is professor of history at Florida A&M University and the author of several books on Florida history, including "Florida's Peace River Frontier," and his work has received the Florida Historical Society's Rembert W. Patrick Book Award and the Certificate of Commendation of the American Association for State and Local History. Larry E. Rivers, dean of the College of Arts and Sciences and distinguished professor of history at Florida A&M University, is the author of "Slavery in Florida: Territorial Days to Emancipation" (UPF, 2000). His work has received the Florida Historical Society's Arthur W. Thompson Prize and the Association for the Study of African American Life and History's Carter G. Woodson Prize. They are coauthors of "Laborers in the Vineyard of the Lord: The Beginnings of the AME Church in Florida," which received the Harry T. and Harriette V.
