Her second novel, Ashoan's Rug, was named one of the top books of 2014 by Salisbury Press. Her non-fiction book, The Last Childhood: A Family Story of Alzheimer's, Three Rivers Press 2000, has been noted as one of the top 100 books written about Alzheimer's. Carrie was born in Detroit. She and her husband, Jeff Leiter, moved to Raleigh, North Carolina in 1978. They have three children.
