Catherine Valentine was born to Baptist missionaries in Sao Paulo, Brasil. She spent the first four years of her life there and then moved with her parents and older sister and brother to Fayetteville, Arkansas, where she lived until she was 12. Catherine was homeschooled until college and her childhood was filled with water fights in the summer, baseball in the streets, and basketball tournaments. She still roots for the Arkansas Razorbacks. Catherine graduated from Crowder College in Neosho, Missouri, but in 2010 moved to Kentucky to attend Berea College. There she studied creative writing and graduated with a degree in English in 2012. Though she loved Kentucky, she wanted to move back to the beautiful Ozarks to write and be close to her 11 nieces and nephews. Catherine wrote her first book of poetry, Mothers and Daughters, in 2014 in memory of her mother, Nellie Jean Valentine, who lost her battle to cancer. A children's book and three other books of poetry followed within the next year and half." See less
