Chris Burden
Chris Burden was born in Boston in 1946, the son of an engineer. Partially trained as an architect, he began to create radical performance body-art works in the late 1960s. Solo exhibitions of his work have been held at the Arts Club of Chicago, the Gagosian Galleries in New York, Beverly Hills, and the Tate Gallery in London. Chris Burden was born in Boston in 1946, the son of an engineer. Partially trained as an architect, he began to create radical performance body-art works in the late 1960s. Solo exhibitions of his work have been held at the Arts Club of Chicago, the Gagosian Galleries in New York, Beverly Hills, and the Tate Gallery in London. Burden was included in the 48th Venice Biennale and in the 1977, 1989, and 1997 Whitney Biennials. In 2005, Burden set sail his self-navigating, computer-controlled yacht, built with assistance from the Marine Engineering Department of the University of Southampton. Since 1978, Burden has held a professorship in New Media at the University of California, Los Angeles, the city in which he took up residence in 1965. See less
