Dave Fox is a North Carolina-based musician, composer, author, and educator. His alter ego, Dr. Drave, is based in Meldavia, the land of the Three Moons of Teronus. Merged together, they make great music and equally great philosophy, applicable to souls everywhere on Earth, Teronus and all points in between. Dave was born in Winston Salem, North Carolina during the same year that the Chevrolet acquired an eight-cylinder engine - 1955. While the 55 Chevy revolutionized car-buying almost immediately, Dave took his time before making his mark on the world. He took piano lessons as a child, then briefly gave up music and became interested in sports. In 1964 he decided to give up sports and go back to music. This decision came about as he realized that sports can cause injuries while at the same time he, along with millions of other future musicians, watched the Beatles appearance on Ed Sullivan. Ever since then it has been music all the way, something for which sports fans everywhere rejoice. While pursuing an undergraduate and a masters degree in piano performance at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, Dave kept playing pop, rock, and jazz gigs on the side. Some of the bands he has been in over the years include: Morningstar, Timepiece, The US Air Jazz Orchestra, The Wally West Little Big Band, and Soul Central. In 2004 Dave Fox turned to composition and songwriting, while at the same time forming the popular Dave Fox Group as an outlet for his creativity. He has recorded five albums of forward-looking music since then to critical acclaim. He has also recorded with other artists, including Eugene Chadbourne, Frank Gratkowski, Melissa Reaves, Jon Fox (his son), Rich Lerner, and many other notables. In addition to these band activities, Dave also performs frequent solo piano concerts. While still maintaining his own group, in 2010 he started a rock project, The Meldavians. Since 1993 he has been a full-time professor at Greensboro College, while making his home in nearby Pleasant Garden with his beautiful wife, Molly. In 2009 Dave realized a long-time dream when he graduated from Teachers College, Columbia University, and received his doctorate in music education. With over twenty-five teaching and performing experience, many of his former students are playing in blues, jazz, and rock bands all over the world. See less
