For years, Doreen (www.d-lindahl.com) worked as a columnist and editor for the Hibbing Daily Tribune (now Mesabi Tribune). She also published a compilation of poems titled, "I Would Rather Write Than Eat." In 2009, she was awarded the Senior Poet Laureate prize for the state of Minnesota. Having grown up on the Iron Range in Minnesota, she lived there her entire life until 2021 when she came to live with her daughter in Woodland Park, CO at the age of 92. She loves life in the mountains and her goal is to make it to 100. She is an avid reader and spends her days reading and doing jigsaw and word search puzzles. Doreen is anything but ordinary! She has indeed shared her special talents and makes the world a better place. Doreen loves to infuse her writing with fun and humor. In the 1980s, she wrote the lyrics to a song about Dr. Seuss, inspiring local governments across the country to proclaim his birthday as Dr. Seuss Day. She then wrote the man himself a story and sent it to him. He replied with a personal thank you note and a drawing of the Cat in the Hat. Doreen enjoyed a second career working at a Health Food Store in Minnesota and retired from that when she turned 80. She has always been health aware and to this day takes no medication. She does a 15-minute chair Pilates exercise program every day. Her attitude is always positive with a smile on her face. When she was in Minnesota, she became isolated, especially with COVID. All her friends had passed on. So, her new life in Colorado is truly a new life for her and she is thankful for every moment. See less
