Author Ethan Steinberg is a graduating Bachelor of Architecture student at the New York Institute of Technology. His academic and design work focuses on educational reform, sustainable building systems, and urban equity. With a passion for reimagining the future of public learning environments, Ethan's thesis explores how adaptable architecture can respond to the evolving social and ecological needs of the 21st century. Advisor Farzana Gandhi served as the primary thesis advisor, providing critical feedback, research guidance, and design mentorship throughout the development of the book. Graphics and Diagrams All architectural drawings, diagrams, and visualizations were created by Ethan Steinberg using Rhino, Adobe Illustrator, and Photoshop unless otherwise noted. Sketches and conceptual models are original works developed in response to site analysis, precedent research, and pedagogical studies. Photography and Site Documentation Site photography and environmental documentation were collected through in-person visits to Southern Williamsburg, with additional urban analysis supported by NYC Open Data and GIS mapping tools. Research Support Portions of the research were informed by sources from the NYC Department of City Planning, the NYC Department of Education, and academic literature on Montessori pedagogy, flexible learning environments, and circular design strategies. Special Thanks To my mentors, family, studio peers, and faculty at NYIT: thank you for your support, insight, and encouragement. This work is a product of many conversations, late nights, and shared visions for a better built environment. See less
