Graham Toft, BSc Paper Science, is an expert on paper chemistry, and has been involved with the subject continuously from 1984, when he completed his degree in Paper Science. During that time he has worked for several multinational paper producing companies and paper chemicals suppliers, has conducted numerous machine evaluations, optimised systems and provided excellent advice on many aspects of paper chemistry. He has worked on the subjects of paper sizing, wet-strength, retention aids and strength aids primarily. His expertise and enthusiasm in the subject area is impressive. Graham also has a company, Paper Technics, which specialises in the provision of training courses for the paper industry. This operates on an international basis, and has provided valuable training for lots of paper companies and groups, large and small. He believes that the subject of paper chemistry is not as impenetrable as people think, and this book has been written with the primary aim of simplifying the subject and to give people who are working with aspects of paper chemistry the background knowledge to make their lives a bit easier.
