Lucas L. Johnson II, a Memphis, Tennessee, native, is a former reporter for The Associated Press where he worked for 24 years. His news coverage included politics, education, health care, religion, and entertainment. In 2003, Lucas published a book called Finding the Good , the story of Fred Montgomery, who was site interpreter for the Alex Haley Museum at the time and mayor of Henning, Tennessee. Montgomery and Haley grew up together. Haley planned to write a book about his childhood friend, but Haley died before starting the project. Fred Montgomery's name is listed on Haley's headstone as one of his unpublished works. Lucas' book, Finding the Good , is considered one of Haley's last works. The book was featured on National Public Radio and re-released in 2021. Lucas also co-wrote Youth Change Agent in 2024. He works in higher education and has taught high school and college students. A freelance writer and communications strategist, Lucas lives in Nashville, Tennessee. See less
