MICHAEL J. JONES is one of Britain's foremost urban archaeologists. He has lived and worked in Lincoln for almost forty years and directed the City's Archaeology Unit for over 20 years. He is currently the City Archaeologist, and holds honorary university posts in Lincoln and Nottingham.
