Over the last three decades, I have been hired as a coach/consultant by individuals and groups interested in improving their ability to speak publicly or to be their best on TV, radio, or media interviews. Using a combination of acting techniques and critical pedagogy, I work with them on basic concepts like audience analysis, how not to be 'upstaged' by technological appurtenances like Power Point and how to use bullet point notes rather than simply read a pre-packaged, printed speech. On occasion, I have worked with video playback so that presenters can see themselves before and after training sessions but, by establishing trust with my clients and making our meeting room a safe place for risk-taking and experimentation, I can usually dispense with the additional time and expense.
