Phillip Moore began teaching at Upland Hills Farm School in 1971 and served as its director for 42 years. Phillip Moore began teaching at Upland Hills Farm School in 1971 and served as its director for 42 years. During this time Phil developed a profound learning community for the students, teachers, and board. This culture of curiosity developed into a synergetic collaboration between the staff members that transcended most traditional models of educational institutions. Moore also led a team to raise 1.5 million dollars and secure 31 acres of land, upon which he led teams to design and build five innovative buildings for their needs. These include a wind-powered Geodesic Dome, a schoolhouse that contains six classrooms, library, and kitchen, a wind and solar powered, sod-roofed Ecological Awareness Center, and a performance theatre that seats 150 people. Phillip and his wife Karen raised two amazing children both of whom attended the school full term. They are blessed with five wonderful grandchildren. Now that his tenure as hands-on director of the school has ended, he has begun new ventures of his "re-wirement."
