Raised on a Midwestern farm as the oldest of five children, Richard Florer grew up immersed in the world of sporting firearms as he accompanied his father and uncles on small game hunts from an early age. The game the family harvested was an essential contribution to the family's budget and sustenance. As a young man, he joined a big bore rifle club. Squaring off against the United States Army's rifle team, he learned the finer points of high-power, three-position shooting. He joined the ROTC in college, shooting with the small bore rifle squad. In the Army, he was attached to an artillery battalion as a surveyor-forward observer-NCO. Post-military, he entered the world of industry as a product development engineer, building prototypes and designing the tooling for product manufacture of sporting rifles and shotguns. Throughout his life, he has crafted one-of-a-kind custom firearms as an independent gunsmith. See less
