Prof. Rui Alexandre Castanho holds an International Ph.D. in Sustainable Planning in Borderlands and currently serves as Vice-Dean for Sustainable Development at WSB University in Poland. He is also a Visiting Professor at the University of Johannesburg, South Africa, and a European Climate Pact Ambassador, actively contributing to the advancement of sustainability and climate resilience across borders. Throughout his academic and professional career, Prof. Castanho has collaborated extensively with renowned institutions worldwide. His affiliations include the ECIDES Research Group at the International University of La Rioja (Spain), the AQUAGEO Research Group at the University of Campinas (Brazil), and the VALORIZA Research Center at the Polytechnic Institute of Portalegre (Portugal), where he holds the role of Vice-Coordinator. His academic background includes degrees in Green Spaces and Agricultural Engineering, complemented by a Master's in Planning, Audit, and Control of Urban Green Spaces. He completed his postdoctoral research under the GREAT Project at the University of the Azores, further strengthening his expertise in regional development and sustainable tourism. Prof. Castanho is a prolific author and editor, with a body of work comprising over 150 peer-reviewed journal articles, 100 indexed book chapters, more than 3o books, and more than 100 international conference contributions. His scholarly influence has been recognized through several honors, including the distinction of Doctor Honoris Causa from the Peruvian University of Science and Informatics (UPCI), and inclusion in the Top 2% of the World's Most Influential Scientists, as per the Elsevier/Scopus report.
