This volume provides treatment of the fundamental principles of structural theories in logical order to provide readers with a basis for future work. This revised edition has been restructured to reflect modern developments and approaches to the subject. The book includes elements of non-linear and dynamic behaviour of structures and places increased emphasis on the matrix analysis of structures. There are new chapter on the direct stiffness method that formalizes the structural analysis for computer programming and on elastic stability, covering the matrix analysis of elastic stability which demonstrates the direct stiffness approach to solving buckling problems. A section on structural dynamics is arranged to lead up to the course on earthquake engineering.

This book was used at UC Berkeley in 1976 by Professor Penzien who was very tough and made it very difficult by not teaching much in class, only to assign problems ahead of the lectures basically. Thanks to the content of this book, I was successful in that class. This book is relative thin compared to most wordy and thick textbooks these days, but, it contains simple, clear and concise theories and many examples that makes it easy to follow. I have a collection of many structural anlysis books but I keep at least two editions of this book. I highly recommend this book to professors and students. I use most of the materials in this book to teach and I have used them for my own analysis and design work all these years.
