This is a very personal story derived from Mr. Monsarrat's diary. I enjoyed this book immensely. I had to visit Wikipaedia quite a bit to learn some of the nautical terminology(since I was in the Army). I have enjoyed his books greatly.

Written in three parts as reserve naval officer makes his way up the chain of command doing convoy protection duty. Quite revealing as to how bad things were.
