Good eating
This book is hard to categorize. There are elements of labor, religious, US and world history, travelogue and others in this book. The impetus was the 30 March 2005 Powerball drawing. Instead of the anticipated 3 or 4 second place winners there were 110. At first it was thought something was wrong with the drawing system but then the winners started coming forward. In state after state the winners had taken the numbers from their fortune cookie fortunes. This led the author to research the similarities and differences in Chinese food in the US and overseas as well as a history of the fortune cookie. While doing this she researched the history of Chinese restaurants in the US, their owners and their workers. Written in an easily read and at times humorous style this book was really enjoyable.
