This text combines two trends in computer technology: CORBA (Common Object Request Broker Architecture) and design patterns. It shows how to quickly build CORBA based applications using the technique called design patterns. It shows how real world designs are created, using a set of Interface Definition Languages created by the Object Management Group. The book begins with introductions to the essentials of CORBA and design patterns. It then takes the reader on to examining different types of design patterns and how they relate to each other. Further material demonstrates design patterns for particular CORBA services and facilities. Finally, this is all brought together by taking the reader through two case studies that demonstrate how to use the ideas presented in the book to create both legacy and Internet applications. The accompanying CD includes Interface Definition Language software for all available CORBA-based services and facilities, all source code examples contained in the book and many sample implementations.
