A fascinating biography of the renowned escapologist and illusionist.
The account of his exploits in the world of espionage is intriguing and the narrative concerning his battle with the spiritualists which saw his relationship with Arthur Conan Doyle flounder is riveting. Houdini stands his ground and does not falter. Saying more here would be giving the game away. Suffice it to say, Harry Houdini does not disappoint.
Romanticists should find his relationship with his wife just as absorbing. His father was a Rabbi, she was the daughter of German Roman Catholics, but he was also a romantic at heart, even though their relationship did not always run smoothly. However, after he died she got rid of all his 'magical' props and his books - her way of escaping from the past, it would seem. What does that tell us!
