Part 1 focuses on the domestic and foreign publishing industry and how publishers calculate price and market for both monographs and serials in the US and Europe. An essay by Audrey Melkin of John Wiley and Sons, pinpoints areas of disagreement among librarians, publishers and vendors and suggests how those issues might be resolved. Part 2 treats the various aspects of working with vendors, including ethical issues which have rarely been created in library literature. The last three sections concern the out-of-print and second-hand markets, non-print publications, and how accounting methods and business practices affect relations between libraries and suppliers. This work aims to make a contribution to the professional literature by examining this area of library operations from the perspectives of all three parties concerned.
