A highly professional account of the last great campaign of the US cavalry, written by one of the main protagonists. Good background and excellent detail of the campaign and the dexperiences of those who took part. As a present day historian, I might take issue with some of Col Thompkins's political views, but none with the military account. As a bonus, it is also very readable.
