This is a beautiful collection of short stories written by Henry Van Dyke. All of these stories, though varied in settings and characters, have the similar feel of a traveler searching for something. Each one is beautifully sketched against an intensely descriptive background. Henry Van Dyke was a master of words and possessed a singular charm in writing wonderfully simple stories with complex undertones. He particularly delighted in mirroring the story of Christ in various settings and unique ways.
The 1902 edition published by Charles Scribner?s Sons is a lovely copy with beautiful illustrations, including some by Howard Pyle.
