Shaping Families is a unique mathematical tale, in rhyme, that describes different family types using polygon shapes. Poly-Anna, the polygon kid, brings readers along an adventure teaching shapes that make-up her unique family. From triangles to decagons, her journey will guide the reader to discover that families come in different sizes, shapes, and colors all for the purpose of creating a circle of love. Geared for Kindergarten and 1st Grade readers (ages 4-7), Shaping Families includes a series of wrap-up questions, definitions, and activities at the end of the story intended to further engage the reader. Supplemental pages include definitions of a polygon, lines, and angles as well as nuclear family, single parent family, and extended family structures. Readers are also asked to color and draw polygon shapes, describe their own "family shape" and draw a picture of their own family tree. Interactive questions were developed based on common core math standards for geometry and measurement & data. Each design concept was created by me but brought to life by a digital illustrator.
