It begins on the shaded town square in a sleepy Southern town. A spirited seven-year-old has a brisk business at her lemonade stand. But the little girl's pretty yellow dress can't quite hide the ugly scar on her chest. Her latest customer, a bearded stranger, drains his cup and heads to his car, his mind on a boat he's restoring at a nearby lake. The stranger understands more about the scar than he wants to admit. And the beat-up bread truck careening around the corner with its radio blaring is about to change the trajectory of both their lives. Before it's over, they'll both know there are painful reasons why crickets cry . . . and that miracles lurk around unexpected corners. With its beautiful, lyrical writing, engaging characters who stick with you, and a storyline that will touch your own heart, it's no wonder why so many readers adore When Crickets Cry. This book was one of my women's book club books. I was taken into this book almost immediately and iit never stopped peaking my interest until the very last words were read. It is a fast and enjoyable read, and you fall in love with the characters. It leaves you with a good feeling when you are through, and yet it re-emphasizes that life is so hard sometimes and things don't always work out the way you would have chosen. I would highly recommend this book for a book club discussion book or simply as a wonderful book to pick up and just enjoy.

Powerful!
This book has an uncanny way of grabbing every reader. On the recommendation of a friend, I suggested this book for my book club of co-teachers. I had no idea at the time that the book was written by a christian author and had a spiritual message. Everyone absolutely loved it! It made for a very interesting discussion. Then, my 21 year-old son-in-law picked it up and read it in a day! This book truly reaches out to everyone.

A page turner
When Crickets Cry grabs you from page one and doesn't let go until the last page. The characters are well developed and so very real. There is a bit of a mystery involved which is part of the story. I will recommend this book to my book group for discussion.
