An enjoyable read. I've read Michael Hodges works in the past and they tend to be more technical. This book explores the genesis of the AK47 and its influences on regional conflicts and the perceptions of the weapon in the press and world at large. I didn't fully agree with all the observations of AK47 and its influences. But of all of the things Hodges makes clear concerning the weapon, the fact that the AK47 is 99.9% reliable in combat situations is correct. I've fired 100's of thousands of rounds through the M14 and the M16. I fully believe in and would choose those battle rifles over the AK, but neither has proven as reliable or influential as the AK.
