"Plot isn't an accessory that conveniently organizes your material according to some ritualistic magic. You don't just plug in plot like a household appliance and expect it to do its job. Plot is organic. It takes hold of the writer and the work from the beginning." -- Ronald Tobias

As a nonfiction writer now turning my hand to fiction, I was looking for reference material to help me craft my work. This book is a good, basic primer that provides a way to break down ideas into subtypes and clearly examine any plot ideas a writer might be trying to flesh out.
I have a degree in psychology, so I tend to categorize my characters during their creation. This book allows me to do the same thing with plots. It gives information on the requirements of different genres, and divides plots into two main types (physical plots & character plots) then organizes everything else into subsets that fall into each type.
This book gives you a variety of frameworks to help you design a plot of your own. If you've got a work in progress, as I did when I got this book, it can help you analyze what you've already got & give you new ideas about where you're going to end up.
I'd recommend this book to anyone who's serious about their writing. I want my work to be the best I can possibly produce, and I think this book is helping. I'm just finishing my first novel, and already planning the set-up to the second. I have characters in mind for the second book, but the plot is not yet completely formed. This book is very helpful in working out the outline, so hopefully I'll won't waste so much time tearing my hair out over plot details the second time around!

Great book every author needs
As a public speaker, author and story teller this book has provided the structure for many popular stories. Everyone loves stories, esp. when they have a lively flow. I'd recommend this book to fellow authors and speakers.
