Not only is this un-edited version more fulfilling, it gives the characters grit and depth lacking in the original release. Sam and Mary are both mature, sexual and alive, while Sam's father is more driven and understandably cynical. The book, as Heinlein originally presented to his editors, was simply too racy for the time it was first published. Now that readers can enjoy Heinlein's characters as intended, the story fits better into the ficton as imagined by the Grand Master. The only problem is making sure that you find the correct version as the ISBN number is the same for the first published, edited version and the newly released as-written un-edited version. Buyers have to look for a 1990 publishing date as even the cover is the same as the 1986 re-release of the edited version. Another easy way to spot the difference is by reading the second paragraph.
