Confcious that a treatife, which elucidates theology by hiflory, will be more read than dry differtations on religion and morality; the Author has blended theology with po licy, and the doctrines Of all religions with hiftory, both ancient and modern, civil and ecclefiafiical. In order to reduce this work to a moderate tile, fentences fhort and deem ed exprefiive, have been preferred to well turned periods; and'thofe religious tenets are fele�ted, which had an influence on po licy and morals, ou-the condition of indivi duals, and the welfare of barbarous, as well as civilized fiates. By this fele�tion many important quefiions are difcufled in three oftavos; the firfi of which exhibits the {fed}: Of Natural, Pagan, jfe'wmj, Cbrfiz'an, and Mdbamemn religions. The next two volumes.
