Somethings do really get lost in translation. Hummingbird is a London based bakery specializing in traditional American or American -Southern sweets. I tried about five recipes before this one got passed along to a friend. The recipes use medium sized eggs, the note for this is opposite the title page in tiny print that I almost missed. All recipes require baking at 325 degrees, which is not hot enough to allow crust to develop or quick breads to rise. The photography is nice and the celebrity preface and clientele helped promote this. You'd be better served by any Southern Living cookbook for this type of simplistic, down home baking.
