Guide to Chickamauga Battlefield Park

Here at the library we are noted for our holdings in genealogy and local history. One of our rarest items is a copy of the original Guide Book to the Chickamauga Battlefield Park, although we lacked a copy of the accompanying map. Worried that the condition had deteriorated badly and finding that very few copies existed of the Guide and the only copy of the map was at the Library of Congress, the decision was made to save the Guide by scanning.

A photocopy was not good enough, too dark, uneven, partially missing letters, etc., so a volunteer recreated it, almost letter by letter to maintain the original fonts. A scan was of the map was purchased from the LOC. It was, however, in multiple colors due to aging, and too expensive to print. So it was also returned to the original black and red and now we offer copies of the set for purchase by interest buyers.
